Post-Season chat with MSU Soccer player Allie Mairn

Michigan State Womens Soccer player Allie Mairn just completed her first collegiate season with the Spartans who had an incredible 2022 Season.

The squad won the B1G Ten Championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Allie shared some of her thoughts with Alpha in this Post-Season interview:

- [ ] Was there a major adjustment in “the speed of the game” from high school to college for you?

“There was definitely a change of pace and physicality going into college that took some getting used to.”

- [ ] How busy was your life playing a fall sport and at the same time going through your first academic semester of college?

“During the season my days looked very similar: class, practice, study hall for homework, and bed. It was busy but once I got the routine down it was manageable.”

- [ ] Physical recovery is important but recharging mentally is just as or more important. How did you recharge mentally during the season between games and practice sessions?

“Being at as high of level that we were, it took a lot out of me mentally. I had to always stay focused on keeping my mind right and I would try to relax as much as possible when outside of soccer to save mental energy.

- [ ] What is the most important thing that you did from a training standpoint to prepare you for your first season of college soccer at Michigan State before you arrived on campus?

“I think the most important thing going into college for me was fitness. I ran about 6 days a week and lifted about 4-5. Keeping up with touches is also important but going in as fit as you can be is critical. Alpha helped a lot with this.”

- [ ] You guys had an awesome season and now that it’s over you’re looking already to next season. From a personal standpoint what are the things that you will be working on in the off-season to take your game to the next level?

“Yes we had a great season and the team is already looking at ways to improve for next year so we can be even better. Over my off season I will continue to work on fitness. I also plan on working on my in air challenges and defending. Go green!!!”
